JARDIN COMMUNAUTAIRE directly engages people from the community in an “easy-to-understand”, “easy-to-participate”, art-project that brings many different cultures together in a shared space.

The project is dependent on community participation on a variety of different levels. Primarily, individuals and/or families would be asked to donate plants in order to create a permanent indoor garden in the lobby. They would be able to visit their plant and tend to it on a regular basis – creating reasons (opportunities) for them to enter the theatre without spending money. The idea is to create a non-commercial relationship between the theatre and the community. Participants would be contributing to the beauty of the building, therefore creating a sense of ownership and belonging.

Peoples’ stories will be recorded on video, audio, and portrait photography – becoming unique textures within this “garden”.
